17 Year Hatch Cycle of “Magic Cicadas” Will Bring Swarms of Biblical Proportion to USA East Coast This Summer

Close the screen door and cover the boat deck. Put the pool cover over the pool. Defend your fledgling vegetable garden seedlings and starts. Close the attic windows. Batten down your homestead hatches, whether rural or urban. Break out some of your best top-water bass fishing lures while you are at it.  The cicadas are hatching.

There are numerous types of “one year cicadas” around the world which only hatch for 365 days and then awaken, but the species which is unique to America’s eastern seaboard are designated “magicicadas” [ as in magic cicadas ] and this variety, known by their large bulging red eyes, follows the 17 year hatch cycle. Bane or blessing, it’s a uniquely “east coast America” experience to witness this 17 year hatch, for it does not take place anywhere else in the world. The insects are completely harmless, non-aggressive, not poisonous, they do not sting or bite, so fear not their massive emergence this summer. They might overwhelm you, however, with their deafening mating song, which is said to be so loud in places on the east coast that it drowns out the sound of planes flying overhead. This phenomenon is also known as an “active chorus.”

After a 17 year dormancy period during which they are buried in the ground, asleep, incubating and formative, the magicicadas are waking up, hatching out, drying off newly unfurled wet wings, and will soon swarm the USA east coast by the umpteen billions in an epic ‘insectoid’ public mosh pit event which last took place in 1996 when Bill Clinton was still president and Hillary was still wearing headbands now and again.

Even if the 2013 hatch [ also known as "brood II ] is a mere 30 billion insects, if they were all lined up head to tail, they’d reach to the moon and back. Ponder that!

“Since 1996, this group of 1-inch bugs, in wingless nymph form, has been a few feet underground, sucking on tree roots and biding their time. They will emerge only when the ground temperature reaches precisely 64 degrees. After a few weeks up in the trees, they will die and their offspring will go underground, not to return until 2030.”

I grew up in the south, so I know the call of the mysterious insect well. The nighttime sound of a cicada is haunting and unmistakable. There was a cicada hatch which took place at some point during my childhood in central North Carolina, and we gathered their brown left-behind shells up and played with them like poker chips, or play money, or little toy trucks … or just fun things to stomp on and crunch. The delicate white ghostly insects had long abandoned these shells of their former selves, leaving the little brown crunchy exoskeletons lying on the ground by the millions. They were everywhere, so we found ways to play with them.  It was a uniquely southern rite of passage as a little girl to be around to witness the sights and sounds which arrived when the cicadas hatched and began to sing their mating songs each night. The air would be filled with the unique insect music that only they know how to make. At times the sound was almost deafening, so you learned to love their pulsating, undulating screech, screech screech as it ebbed and flowed into the late evening. The call was always loudest right after sundown, a herald of the coming cool air which would flow over the land when the sun went down.

Cicadas are fascinating and mysterious little insects and their peculiar 17 year life cycle has inspired considerable myth, lore and legend:

“Many people know periodical cicadas by the name “17-year locusts” or “13-year locusts”, but they are not true locusts, which are a type of grasshopper. Their uniqueness has given them a special appeal and cultural status. Members of the Onondaga Nation near Syracuse NY maintain the oral tradition of being rescued from famine by periodical cicadas. Early European colonists viewed periodical cicadas with a mixture of religious apprehension and loathing. Modern Americans maintain numerous websites to assist in planning weddings, graduations, and other outdoor activities around Magicicada emergences.”

• In Chinese folklore the cicada is considered a sacred animal symbol of resurrection and rebirth.
• An old Italian myth tells the story of how cicadas came to earth to sing. A long time ago a young woman was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. So beautiful was her voice that when she died, the gods who missed the sound of her voice, allowed her to return to life every summer as the cicadas so she could continue to sing.
• Blue eyed cicadas, which occur genetically only one in a million times, do occur but are extremely rare. It’s considered an omen of great good fortune to find one of these rare blue eyed insects after a 17 year hatch.
• To the ancient Greeks the cicada symbolized resurrection, rebirth, and immortality and is mentioned as being sacred to the ancient Greek sun god Apollo. Homer mentions cicadas in the Iliad around 9000 BC and compares the discourse of “sage chiefs exempt from war” to the song of the cicada.
• Ancient Greeks and Chinese made a habit of keeping male cicadas in cages for the pleasure of hearing them sing. One Greek ode to the cicada says: “We call you happy, O cicada, because after you have drunk a little dew from the treetops you sing like a queen.”
• Cicadas have been featured on numerous coins. Members of ancient Roman nobility even wore gold broaches featuring cicadas to hold back their hair.
• In Taoism, the cicada is the symbol of the hsien, or soul, disengaging itself from the body at death. Cicadas are also featured in Japanese carvings on small medicine boxes and are mentioned in ancient Hindu law as long ago as 200 BC in India.
• Many cultures have used cicadas for medicinal purposes for anything from a cure for earaches (China & Japan) to a diuretic (France). In China, shed cicada skins or actual nymphs (all of which are silent) are collected and ground up. A tea made from these skins is given to noisy, crying babies in the hope that the baby will then be quiet like the cicada nymph rather than noisy like the adult cicada.
• In ancient Greek myths and legends the cicada has often represented insouciance, which means nonchalance and cool indifference. In one Greek legend Zeus grants a mortal, Tithonus, immortality but not eternal youth by turning him into a cicada.
• The Japanese associate the cicada with summer and songs of the cicada are often used in Japanese TV and films to indicate that the scene is occurring during summer. There is a song sung by the cicada in Japan that is said to represent the end of summer and when it is heard many of the children go out and collect the shells the cicadas have left behind when moulting. The Japanese also use the cicada in their philosophical teachings about rebirth, seeing it as a symbol of reincarnation.

North Korea Ups the Ante on War on Christian ‘Good Friday’

The ongoing game of “military bluff” between  US and North Korea military leaders is getting deadlier by the day, and neither side seems to be backing down.

We all know what the deadly game of “chicken” is all about, when two speeding vehicles are facing head on, trained upon one another on a collision course, traveling at break neck speed, and the first vehicles to veer away from the imminent head on collision is the “chicken”.

It would appear that’s where we are here. I’m not comfortable with it, and I wasn’t thrilled to learn that the head of our own military command is not actually sure “how our actions [ US Stealth bomber SE Asia fly-over 3.28.2013 ] are being interpreted in North Korea” by Jong Eun. Isn’t that like tossing a weapon into the air then wondering right before you catch it  “…wow, I hope this thing’s not loaded ….”

Can our nation afford the luxury of not knowing how this week’s stealth bomber fly-over of North Korean targets would be interpreted by an unhinged, untried, untested young lunatic head-of-state in North Korea? Judging from recent propaganda videos which are emerging from North Korea, the North Korean people are already being whipped up into a frenzy to go to all out war with South Korea and the US.  This has to be a nerve wracking time to be living in South Korea. The video below appears to portray an invasion of South Korea by the North, among other things.

It’s way past time to de-escalate this ongoing war game and ratchet down the growing tensions. Let’s please NOT let this ongoing military PR show get to the point where Jong Eun actually believes that a pre-emptive strike on US soil is a thinkable, doable action that his nation can survive.

Is there anyone anywhere out there in foreign policy [ WHERE is John Kerry right now? ] land who can remind Jong Eun of what will happen to his nation if they let loose a missile trained onto the United States? There are millions of innocent lives at stake here.  Hello???

Plague of Locusts Descends on Egypt, Creates Panic in Israel

As if out of the pages of the Book of Revelation, this unnerving breaking news story from the UK based news website Mail Online was posted on March 4th. I have re-blogged it below for subscribers. As swarms of locust devour Egyptian crops, the Middle East is bracing for the destructive bugs to migrate their way ahead of the Passover holiday.

A swarm of an estimated 30million insects has been devastating crops in Egypt, fuelling apocalyptic fears because of the infestation’s proximity to the Bible story of Passover in which a swarm of locusts, the eighth of ten plagues, is imposed on Egyptians by God for enslaving and abusing ancient Hebrews.

Israel’s Agriculture Ministry set up an emergency hotline today and urged residents to be vigilant in reporting sightings of the insects to prevent an outbreak.

Swarms descending: A swarm of an estimated 30million locust has descended on Egypt (including these insects seen over the Al-Mogattam district of Cairo) as Israel braces for the infestation to head their way

A special task force has also been set up to help farmers manage infestations.

The locusts pass through the country as part of their normal migration from north east Sudan to Saudi Arabia, the Egyptian Agriculture Ministry said, emphasizing that Egypt was just ‘a transfer station’ for the locusts, which were in larger numbers this year.

As the insects descended on agricultural farms in Giza and in Cairo, causing significant damage, fears have been raised that they could spread to Israel.

Battle with the bugs: Residents in Cairo burn tyres to create black smoke to deter the locust settling there as Israel’s Agriculture Ministry set up an emergency hotline and urged residents to be vigilant in reporting sightings of the insects

Passover plague: The bugs have fueled apocalyptic fears because of the infestation’s proximity to the Bible story of Passover in which a swarm of locusts, the eighth of ten plagues, is imposed on Egyptians by God for enslaving and abusing ancient Hebrews

In a statement from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the infestation was described as a ‘immature swarm’ which ‘appeared in the afternoon (on March 2) in the eastern Cairo districts of New Cairo and Mokattam and dispersed into several smaller swarmlets’.

The statement read: ‘The locusts originated from breeding that has been in progress since November in southeast Egypt between Berenice and the Sudanese border.

Killing crops: As the locusts have descended on agricultural farms in Giza and in Cairo, they have caused significant damage to agriculture

‘As vegetation dried out, small groups and swarms of immature adults moved slowly north along the Red Sea coast, reaching Marsa Alam on 8 February, Hurghada on the 16th and Zafarana on the 26th.’

As well as Israel, Lebanon and Jordan have been alerted.

In Cairo, people were burning tyres to create black smoke to deter the locust from settling and there were reports that swarms had been seen in Zafarana, about 124 miles from Cairo, on the Red Sea and in the city of Qena, where the insects have been sighted in at least three villages.

According to the Israel National News, the Egyptian Agriculture Minister Dr Salah Abd Al Mamon said: ‘Egyptian armed forces and border guards are attempting to fight the swarm with all means at their disposal.

‘I ask the families living in the locust-plagues areas not to burn tyres. This does not chase away the locusts, but only causes damage and could ignite largescale fires that would cost in lives.’

He said that strong winds were predicted in weather forecasts and he hoped that this would force the insects to migrate toward the Red Sea and Saudi Arabia. Crop duster planes were also going to be used to handle the infestation.

Egypt and Israel was infested with locust in 2004. Israeli agriculture officials sent crop dusters into the air to spray against the locusts that swept in from North Africa in the first such invasion since 1959.

The Egyptian Agriculture Ministry said that the locusts pass through the country as part of their normal migration from north east Sudan to Saudi Arabia, reaffirming that Egypt is just ‘a transfer station’ for the locusts

Farmers in 15 out of the 27 Egyptian governorates suffered significant agricultural damage as the insects devoured crops and flowers.

This year Passover will begin on the evening of March 25 and end on the evening of April 2.

The infestation comes as a study warns that yellow-legged Asian hornets that prey on bees are among the latest non-native species threatening UK wildlife, and even people’s health.

A growing number of alien species, from killer shrimps to Spanish slugs, are set to soon reach our shores, a Europe-wide study warns.

The Asian hornet, which grows to between 2.5cm and 3cm (1-1.2 inches), preys on native honeybees, wasps and other pollinators, potentially devastating hives and threatening honey and crop production.

Add to today's news the latest abomination appearing on America streets: city buses which display "My Jihad" adverts. I can only assume that Americans everywhere - and especially residents of the cities where these ads are appearing, will be outraged enough to gather and peacefully storm local city hall meetings to demand that the outrageously offensive "hate advertising" be pulled and prohibited. Any lame excuses made by politically correct Muslims that these horrific ads are an effort to "re-introduce" Muslims to America via PR is utter nonsense and needs to be immediately and powerfully refuted as such. I can read. I can comprehend clearly how the message of these ads will speak to an already radicalized American or immigrant Muslim, urging he or she to act on their urges to hurt and harm Christians on American city streets. Pull this outrageously offensive and preposterously misguided ad campaign immediately, before someone gets hurt or killed over it.

Pope Benedict Announces His Resignation Due to Advancing Age, Era of the Last Pope Now Imminent

According to the prophecy of Saint Malachy, Pope Benedict XVI is the 111th Pope.

the devout Christian Saint Malachy had prophesied centuries ago that there would be 112 Popes. He named them in turn, stunning the monastic community. “The prophecy was first published in 1595 by Arnold de Wyon, a Benedictine historian, as part of his book Lignum Vitæ. Wyon attributed the list to Saint Malachy, the 12th‑century bishop of Armagh in Ireland. According to the traditional account, in 1139, Malachy was summoned to Rome by Pope Innocent II. While in Rome, Malachy purportedly experienced a vision of future popes, which he recorded as a sequence of cryptic phrases. This manuscript was then deposited in the Roman Archive, and thereafter forgotten about until its rediscovery in 1590.”

Every Pope to come was accurately named and described by Saint Malachy in his prophecy, a spiritual feat unheard of, inspiring millions to take the content of his prophecy more seriously as the centuries have passed.

Dad Pays His Teenaged Daughter To Quit Facebook

Yep, you read that right. It’s gotten so out of hand a father was willing to pay his fourteen year old daughter $200 to log off of the time wasting and useless internet portal – and stay logged off of it for a year. He and she both estimate her grades will go up and her social anxiety will go down. All of this was actually the daughter’s idea. She went to her dad and decided to cash in on her idea. He bought it.

All I can say is “wow” and not much else. Just exactly how spoiled and over-indulged are American teenagers?

Blog Author’s Diary Entry January 2013: Privacy Cherished, Catfishing, Media Violence Discussed

Today I am writing a diary entry for my readers and subscribers, which total a whopping 300-400 people combined.  Perfect! That’s a tiny amount of followers but it’s A-ok with me. Call me SANE but I have no interest in having tens of thousands of total strangers know every move I make on the internet and become privy to every thought I think out loud on a blog. So, overall, life is good out here in personal privacy land, aka  the wilds of fill-in-the-blank anywhere America.

While everyone else is straining their blood pressure  to the breaking point trying to become even more “internet famous” I was delighted today when I discovered that I could completely erase my entire Google Plus profile, lock stock and barrel. I loved it. One click and an extended circle of porn stars, internet weirdos and people I had never heard of and never met disappeared forever, no longer being able to follow my every move online. And oh yeah… DARPA had included me in their Google circle. I put a stop to that in a hurry. Ahhhhh.

I’ve noticed and have written before that more than half of all “social networking” is veiled surveillance by the FED in affiliation with the biggest web “powers-that-be” i.e. Google and Facebook. So that should not be news to my readers. I agree with Julian Assange. I also believe that Facebook is the most appalling public spy machine and data mining operation ever launched, right next to what Google Plus is trying to do to emulate it.

Back Story:

I was in my 30s when  the internet came around. I had already lived half of my adult life without it. These days I try to emulate that “pre-internet” “pre-cell phone” life experience as much as possible, and I absolutely LOVE it.

It’s a stress free relaxed existence, truly private, [ yes this is still possible ] and uncomplicated by running to a phone or a computer screen every 30 seconds to see what someone just said about me, someone who may have “friended” me but whom I have never met or had any significant face to face encounter with whatsoever. There is at least a 50% chance that behind every good looking FB photo there is a NOT so good looking impersonator trolling the web for new victims to CATFISH.  [ Funny, I always knew there was a damn good reason that I didn't want any photos of me online. My intuition from years ago has been fully vindicated. Check. ]

Thus are the times we live in, and they are STRANGE indeed.

The advent of the internet has launched an era of twisted extremes. For those who love to learn [ like me ] it has brought the super digital glorious library of the entire world into my living room, thus making research on any topic a heavenly experience. Unless my computer is on the blink, I rarely walk into a public library anymore. I have it all right at home.

But the dark side of the internet is getting darker, more bizarre and increasingly difficult for normal people to fathom. Recent breaking news about a world famous Notre Dame football player who had an “online love affair” with a faked non-existent human being invented by hostile pranksters for more than 3 years has set the nation back on it’s feet more than a little bit. That’s hard to swallow, and truly strains credulity. Even Anderson Cooper was dumbstruck. Jay Leno has had a field day with this story.

I had already watched a few episodes of MTV’s “Catfish” and had seen the original movie. I marveled at the magnitude of the stupidity of some of today’s young people.  I really genuinely pity these kids. They are SO LOST that they are actually self duped into thinking that they are “having a relationship” with a mystery set of “pretty girl face” photos and Facebook responses which proceed over time.

Anyone trying to explain what “Catfishing” is to a teenager from the 1950s would be met with guffaws of mocking laughter so loud they would fill a sports stadium. Believe it or not, there was an era in the United States when teenagers and twenty somethings had some moxie, had real social cunning [ as opposed to a Facebook social life ]  genuine emotional insight, and they also had a brain or two. They were more psychologically and emotionally “adults” at age fourteen in the 1950s than most of today’s young people are at age twenty-nine.

Which brings me to my next query. Aren’t todays’ sociologists, psychologists and psychiatrists as alarmed at all this as I am? And if not, then WHY NOT? Our 21st century young people are Facebook brilliant but they are social idiots.  Be concerned. Be VERY concerned. These are the men and women who will inherit the nation, for God’s sake.

Over and over again it turns out some handsome young guy has been having an internet relationship with a bashful closeted gay man craving male attention by pretending to be a woman online, or vice versa [ a lesbian who pretends to be a man online ] and this sick charade goes on, not for just weeks, but for months, and then for years. If I could time travel back to … ohh let’s say the late 1980s, and tell this cautionary tale to my own “20 something” self, she would refuse to believe that the future would be a world where stupidity reigns, and is celebrated by every kind of TV display imaginable. Who would want to live in that future?

Yet that is exactly the American idiocracy rising that I inhabit in the early years of the 21st century. Sitting here in this future, which my past self could have NEVER imagined, I do long for a time in America when normalcy did not include weird internet pathologies like being “catfished” online.

Is it madness? Absolutely. Is it the newest socio-psychological internet era disease unique to the second decade of the internet years? Yep. And there will be more and more new kinds of bizarre clinical pathologies which come online as the internet decades continue to unfurl. We have unleashed a powerful global medium which will only unerringly reflect the lack of spiritual maturity and the dire extent of strange new mental illnesses which the modern era continues to spawn. We are far past “fasten your safety belts.” We are entering the yawning digital unknown. I suspect our aggregate social scientists have been caught utterly unprepared for all of it.

The only antidote for these emerging modern online pathologies is:

1) raw visceral native intelligence which doesn’t come from book learning,  

2) true spiritual discernment, or

3) Limit one’s time online 

So if you lack those first two qualities, and refuse to practice the third you may be out of luck. Wisdom can’t be purchased for any price anywhere. And one can only hope that by the experience of living one might be so fortunate over time to acquire a few morsels of same.

As for me, I am more than a little bit fine these days. Life is tranquil and loaded with insights. As I observe all the twisting and gnashing of the early 21st century, I am less inclined to want to write about much of it, for I see it as detritus, not unlike hyper-stressed animal droppings. The world is straining under the weight of it’s own foolishness, just as Jesus said it would in the end. Nothing surprises me now. Whereas two or three years ago I would have ranted to no end on one of my blogs upon learning that young American couples were voluntarily agreeing to be RFID micro-chipped for the silliest of reasons [ maybe just so they could appear on the evening news, as that is often considered reason enough ] today in early 2013 I just make a note of such news items as one more up-tick in the flood tide of news which indicates the rise of the coming Beast Era, brief as it will be.

I steel my soul for what comes in each day’s newscasts, and the evening news is often so gory that I turn away from dinner and can’t eat while watching it. Television offerings are filled with macabre serial killer crime shows and shows about witches vampires witchcraft and explicitly portrayed murder of every type and variety. Yet media executives bristle with defiance when it’s pointed out that young people take lives with the reckless abandon of popping a can of Red Bull. Our so called leaders in Congress and the Senate lack the moral spine to stand up to the horror masters in Hollywood who fill American TV airwaves and movie theaters with the most hideous and heinously explicit portrayals of deviance. Every soul who is participating in the creation of media portrayals of explicit horror that mar the soul of an innocent American young person will have to answer to their maker one day for what they are doing, which is the graphic advertising of ever more horrific ways to kill another human being.

All a visiting guest from another world would need to do to ascertain the level of abject depravity to which American society has now sunk, is to peruse the evening TV shows for about 4 minutes. That snapshot records a sharp and lurid “slice of American life” which truly turns the stomach.  A day of reckoning will come in the future where the souls who agreed to participate in the degradation of the American TV airwaves will have to answer for their misuse of the God given gift of creativity. They will have to answer to their Creator for how they used this gift. I hope a Hollywood movie executive or TV producer reads this diary entry. You are not off the hook.

As for me, I screen my TV viewing carefully and I am fine. But a little four year old child lacks the ability to do this. And an impressionable and depressed teen aged male also lacks the discernment to comprehend that it’s probably not the smartest choice to get addicted to “The Following” which is TV’s newest slide into graphic depravity served up as entertainment for the nation.

I’ll resume periodic blogging gradually as the year opens up, but frankly it’s often just as pleasant NOT to write about what my spiritual eyes behold, as there’s not a whole lot of it that is encouraging. Recent events have horrified and saddened us all. Yet I do race to embrace any good news where I find it.

I still believe very much in the heart and soul of the American people, but her leaders are failing her and her media and video game moguls are trying to literally corrupt her actual soul by advertising horror, murder, death and carnage nonstop. Only the blind refuse to see this. Only the deaf refuse to hear it. And those who choose to remain mute by not speaking out about it will suffer the eventual consequences of allowing it to go on unabated and escalate unchecked. It has already come to the point where children and teens are not safe to attend public schools or visit malls and movie theaters. How much worse will the massacres become before Congress acts to legislate the graphic movie, video game, and TV violence out of existence? How far will the madness go before the men and women who profess to lead America finally act?

We now never know as a nation when the next young person is going to snap and gun down his own family, or a room full of strangers, or a room full of children. But we MUST try to legally and methodically clean up the sordid American media landscape so that the entertainment industry will be forced to STOP providing the macabre how-to scenarios for personal killing sprees, and then stoop so low as to routinely broadcast those twisted formulas to the masses as “family entertainment.”

Jesse Ventura TV Airs Show About Illuminati Underground Bunkers in the Ozarks

This informative episode of Jesse Ventura’s Conspiracy TV provides plenty of raw material for connecting the dots on another location where the US and global elites might be planning to hunker down during the worst of any coming civil unrest, world war or global pole wobble event in the coming decades.

The Ozarks are a highly logical location for survival, as the mountain range sits on a spine of solid bedrock which would most likely remain relatively stable during any serious geocrustal displacement, or pole shift event. Situated dead center in the middle of the United States, if the federal government ever had to literally relocate inland to keep the country intact during an east coast nuclear missile strike, the Ozarks, along with the greater Rocky Mountain range [ see research on Denver Colorado ] would be far enough from the fallout to remain safe, depending on weather patterns. West to east wind currents almost always carry weather fronts [ and any resultant radioactive fallout from an east coast nuclear strike ] from west to east, thus blowing much of the fallout out over the Atlantic ocean.
