Comet Ison Approaches Perihelion

Happy Thanksgiving, to my readers and fellow WordPressers!! I hope this post finds you all thankful, happy, contented and celebrating the holiday with those you love.

At 1:30 pm today Comet Ison will make it’s closest approach to the sun, and boomerang past it. Will the comet disintegrate on fly-by?

All eyes are watching [ in between mouthfuls of Thanksgiving turkey ] to see if the comet survives the intense gravity and heat of the fly-by. For those who would like to try to catch a glimpse of the comet, there is a great article on how to do that here.

There’s also an app for that, [ of course! ].

I found a long low flat stretch of beach with a high overlook north of Coos Bay where I will try to view the comet this evening and tomorrow morning. I am taking high powered binoculars with me…
